We’re #Ready2Work. Are you?

We’re Canadian operating engineers. We build your roads, your hospitals, and your office towers – we’re the backbone of Canada’s economy, and we live in the same communities you do. That’s why when we build and maintain pipelines, we build right, we build safe, and we build to last. No more excuses. It’s time to build pipelines, using some of the best pipeline experts on the planet: Canadian operating engineers.

99.999 percent of crude oil moved by pipeline arrives safely at its destination. That’s because of us. We are a highly trained, world-class workforce. We are trained through best-in-class programs – IUOE Locals unions invest millions in these programs. We build pipelines with one goal: making sure our communities are safe. Other modes of transport, like truck and rail, pose a higher risk of spills and injuries. Pipelines are the safest way – we make sure of it.

The science is clear: shipping oil by rail creates more greenhouse gas emissions than shipping oil by pipeline. Under the Paris Agreement, Canada is fighting climate change by cutting emissions 30% from 2005 levels by 2030. Pipelines are the best way to help us achieve that goal. Beyond emissions, pipelines are also safe for local environments – the pipeline proposals currently on the table are undergoing the most comprehensive and thorough environmental reviews in Canadian history. This is the most beautiful country in the world – we want to keep it that way. After all, we live here too. Pipelines are the environmentally responsible choice, bar none.

With the collapse of oil prices, thousands of working Canadians have lost their jobs. Families can’t put food on the table. That’s why we need pipelines. Building pipelines will create thousands of good union jobs. Thousands will rejoin the middle class, and thousands more will benefit from a growing economy. After all, oil is key to Canadian prosperity. Yes, we rely on renewable energy more and more everyday – but oil will continue playing a role for decades. Knowing this, we have a responsibility to transport oil in the safest, most environmentally responsible way possible: through pipelines. Building pipelines means building a greener, more prosperous Canada.
